“The Paradoxical Commandments”

People are illogical, unreasonable, and self-centered.

Love them anyway.
If you do good, people will accuse you of selfish ulterior motives.

Do good anyway.
If you are successful, you will win false friends and true enemies.

Succeed anyway.
The good you do today will be forgotten tomorrow.

Do good anyway.
Honesty and frankness make you vulnerable.

Be honest and frank anyway.
The biggest men and women with the biggest ideas can be shot down by the smallest men and women with the smallest minds.

Think big anyway.
People favor underdogs but follow only top dogs.

Fight for a few underdogs anyway.
What you spend years building may be destroyed overnight.

Build anyway.
People really need help but may attack you if you do help them.

Help people anyway.
Give the world the best you have and you’ll get kicked in the teeth.

Give the world the best you have anyway.”

Co Jordan Talaba/Bangus Eatery: My First Fishing Experience

I am up for any adventure especially if it will be my first. I haven’t tried fishing and here in Cebu, I finally got the chance to experience it with my partner. So, we headed North to Consolacion Cebu to a restaurant called Co Jordan. So, I wanted to share with you my fishing experience in pictures. Enjoy!

How to get there:
– Take a jeepney bound for SM Consolacion
– Then, take a pedicab at the side of SM City Consolacion and tell the driver that you are heading to Co Jordan

Below are the pictures I took. Have a look and enjoy!

Simple yet very welcoming facade.

Elevator Etiquette for Dummies | MissNessieMarie

At work, our office is located on the 11th floor and obviously, the most convenient way is to take the lift.

One day after work, having the usual routine, I wasn’t expecting that my patience will be tested. People squeeze themselves in and I thought they’d behave but I was wrong.

Heal, Dear Alma Mater | Donate and Help Rebuild Plaza Central School

To others, maybe you are just one of those old structures…
but to us you are something.
Something more than that. Something great.

You saw us as we first took that step on your grounds, nervously waiting because it is our first day while latching on to our mother’s side, filled with mixed emotions.

You’ve seen us opening our new notebook, as we scribbled funny things on it.

You’ve seen us
share secrets…
You even witnessed our first puppy love – that childhood crush.

You’ve seen us
stutter during recitations,
got our first big zero marked in red ink, crumpled it and get on with it hoping our parents won’t notice.
You’ve seen us burst into tears.

You’ve seen our other side.
You saw that moment we cheated,
lied, and bullied someone, but you asked no questions.

You were silent.

You’ve seen our struggles and our victories.
You’ve seen us marched towards that platform, while receiving our medals, certificates, and diplomas. You were there looking at us happy and proud.

Then, that was the time you let us go, fully equipped with knowledge and wisdom. You set us for bigger challenges and more exciting victories. You watched us not marching towards you but away from you. You watched us leave…

You waved goodbye.

We left, you cried.

Do you remember those times you used to tell us stories? Yes, there were tons of it! We would never forget all those crazy ghost stories you used to scare us.  You really had a lot of stories to tell back then but on the 18th of January 2016, we heard a different story. An even more terrifying than a typical ghost story.

A heartbreaking one to be exact. So different that you are not enthusiastic while telling us about it.

A part of you died. Burned to ashes, leaving us with cinders.

You sobbed, we cried.

Like a phoenix, you will be reborn, new, and stronger. But those memories…our memories…

The smell of your good-old wooden floors,

those fun times we spent sliding down the stairs using the top part of some broken desks during breaks,

those corridors where we used to chat, goof around, and read our notes while waiting for our next class.

Those were just few of all those great memories we shared. You were one of those stepping stones that helped us get to where we are today. With that, we’re forever thankful.

Heal, dear alma mater, heal… for we shall see each other again. Rise, rise with all your glory.

Like a phoenix, rise from your ashes!

The pictures above show the aftermath. My facebook friend Audrey Harry initiated a GoFundMe Campaign to help rebuild the school.

Book Review: The Queen of the Tearling by Erika Johansen | Miss Nessie Marie

Title: The Queen of the Tearling

Author: Erika Johansen

Genre: Fiction (Adult)

Theme: Post-apocalyptic in a Medieval Setting

The Queen of the Tearling

The Queen of the Tearling is about Kelsea Raleigh who is the descendant to the throne of the Tearling but she was exiled and lived away from her kingdom for the last nineteen years of her life. Given the present situation of her kingdom and now that her mother is dead, she must reclaim her throne and correct all the mistakes under the awful ruling of the Regent and of the influence of the brutal Red Queen. Erika Johansen used more than one POV yet she presented it in a way that it can easily be understood and digested. Other book reveiwers associated the story as a “female of Game of Thrones”. I think that strong feminism is being presented in this book which we seldom find in any other fiction stories.  In The Queen of the Tearling, Kelsea showed her prowess and made a great impression of a strong female leader/ruler and she also has a handful of guards protecting her along the way. There is magic, betrayals, hidden identities, dirty politics, and violence. I really loved the book and rated it 5 stars on goodreads because duh!? Who wouldn’t love a strong female main character? I still have a lot of questions though about the other characters, especially about their lives before Kelsea was born and I am super excited if there is someone whom Kelsea will fall in love with. 66457c8a I highly recommend The Queen of the Tearling to those of you who are fond of reading post-apocalyptic adult fantasy novels. Overall, the first book of the trilogy exceeded my expectations and I just can’t hide my excitement for the next installment, which is The Invasion of the Tearling that will be released this coming 9th of June 2015. And wait, there’s more! Daily Mail UK announced that Emma Watson will play as Kelsea in the upcoming movie adaptation of the book and will be produced by David Heyman, same producer of the successful Harry Potter franchise which starred Emma Watson as Hermione Granger. This news made me even more excited. How about you? If you have read The Queen of the Tearling, let me know in the comments on your thoughts and your reviews as well. If you want to purchase this book, click here. They offer free shipping worlwide! Happy reading!

Nuat Thai Foot & Body Massage Dumaguete City Review | Miss Nessie Marie

Nuat Thai Logo

After a long week of hardwork, who wouldn’t want to de-stress and relax?

I heard about Nuat Thai Foot & Body Massage from my friends and relatives all claiming that is one of the best massage parlors in town, so me and my boyfriend decided to try their service for the first time.

Nuat Thai Foot & Body Massage is conveniently located at Pinili Street, Dumaguete City (see map below).

nuat thai dumaguete city location

We entered and approached the receptionist. The area is quite small but it was clean and well maintained. They offer a wide variety of services such as Thai, Swedish, or back massage and we opted for a Combination of Swedish and Yoga Massage for only 230 pesos for an hour.

We were escorted to an area where they prep us by soaking our feet with hot water for like 15 mins and then led us upstairs to our room. The room was perfectly dimmed providing us this relaxing ambiance. There were two floor beds (as we opted for a couple room) with super clean and fresh smelling sheets which is a plus because I am very particular with this. My masseuse was friendly and very professional. She was gentle on me after I told her about my back condition(scoliosis). The combination of Swedish and Yoga massage felt so great that it made me so sleepy.

After the massage which lasted for a hour, they asked us if we want to be served with tea, we said yes and they served it downstairs. The whole massage experience was perfect and worth the price. We were happy with their service and were impressed with their professionalism in handling clients. I highly recommend Nuat Thai to those looking for great quality and affordable massage service. Surely, we will be back to try their other services.

A Stroll Down Haji Lane | Miss Nessie Marie

Haji Lane | Miss Nessie Marie

(***WARNING!!! Photo heavy.)

Hello everyone! I’ve been to Singapore last month for a long vacation and visited a lot of places including Haji Lane. I went there last 2012 but didn’t get the chance to explore more of the city so when I went there last October 2014, I grabbed that second opportunity to roam around Singapore and I was able to explore more of what Singapore has to offer.

Haji Lane is located in the Kampong Glam (Kampong means “village” and Glam means “glamorous”) area of Singapore. It is a narrow street filled with boutiques, Continue reading
